Architect's Residence
The owner is a noted architect whose L.A. firm is tapped for innovative structures for public buildings such as universities and hospitals. It can be a tall order for a contractor to build for an architect-owner whose own design must be brought to life. The three-bedroom home owner Paul Zajfen designed for himself and his wife Susan is situated on a lot with spectacular coastline views in the Diamond-Crestview area of Laguna Beach. For more than two decades, the couple anticipated building their unique home – a tale of tenacity featured in the Los Angeles Times. The resulting 3,400-square-foot contemporary home represents all best possible outcomes: Paul and Susan could not be happier living here, its design is being considered for international architectural awards, and the Zajfens remain close friends and neighbors with Ken and his wife Barbara.
